Preschoolers: Understanding and Preventing Challenging Behaviors

This 2-hour behavior guidance course will meet the licensed family child care annual training requirement. The objectives of the training are to help participants: learn about the importance of building positive relationships with children; learn about the relationship between children’s social emotional development and challenging behaviors; discuss guidance strategies in the context of the physical environment, routines and schedules, and helping children manage their emotions.

Pediatric & Adult CPR/AED & First-Aid

The American Heart Pediatric CPR/First Aid/AED course is geared towards anyone involved in childcare who have a duty to respond to illnesses and injuries in a child or infants. Participants will learn to provide care to; injury, environmental and medical emergencies, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner and how to prevent illness and injury. This course has been updated to reflect new science and education in the 2020 Guidelines for CPR & ECC and will replace the previous version.

Health and Safety I – Family Child Care

Enhance health and safety management in the family child care setting. Review Minnesota Rule 2 health and safety licensing standards along with best practices related to children’s health/wellness, medication administration, responding to allergies, food safety standards, standard precautions, infectious diseases, and mandated reporting. Explore influences on health and safety and promote a safe environment with childcare practices to minimize risks for children. (This course is designed for currently licensed Family Child Care providers and fulfills both family child care licensing in-service training requirements and meets federal health and safety Child Care Development Fund (CCDF) mandates.)

Designing For Diversity: Creating Social-Emotional Spaces That Reflect Children’s Lives

Designing for diversity requires that educators incorporate the cultural strengths and perspectives of the children and families who are actively engaged in the program and within the surrounding community. Implement learning strategies in your early childhood environment that can easily be adapted in multiple ways, help overcome personal biases, and allow tolerance for divergent thinking. Create environments through a diversity lens that accounts for equity and trauma-informed practice.

Active Supervision: Provider Self-Care And Privacy

Define MN DHS Rule 2 licensing standards regarding supervision in family child care settings. Examine ways to reduce or eliminate safety hazards that children encounter in unlicensed spaces, key areas, and hot spots within family child care environments. Establish a plan for regular review of family child care environments to promote children’s safety.
